History of Tunison Maps
In the late 19th century there was a boom of American map makers, with some new smaller companies that produced interesting work. One such publisher was Henry Cuthbert Tunison, a carto-publisher based in a small town, making maps in their own style with some older approaches, such as hand coloring each image, and a decorative border.
H. C. Tunison was an obscure cartography firm of the late 1800s, known primarily for their use of bright florescent hues not employed by other map-makers at the time. This element made for unique, eye-catching maps.
